WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT CARBON FIBER, BLACK CERAMIC, ECLIPSE & ZIRCONIUM

Black bands accounted for over 52% of our sales last year, reflecting their strong demand and broad appeal. While the sleek, modern appearance of black rings is a major draw, not all black finishes perform the same over time. Many lower-quality bands rely on surface-level coatings that can scratch, fade, or wear away with daily use, resulting in a noticeable change in appearance.

To ensure long-term durability and color stability, we recommend materials that are inherently black or engineered specifically for wear resistance. Black Ceramic offers excellent scratch resistance and maintains its color without the need for applied coatings. Carbon Fiber provides a lightweight option with a naturally dark appearance and distinctive texture. Eclipse is designed for consistent color and durability, while Zirconium forms a permanent black oxide layer when heat-treated, making the color integral to the material rather than applied to the surface.

BLACK CERAMIC

Non-Metalic Titanium Carbide | Black All the Way Through

Black ceramic is one of our favorite materials because it’s hypoallergenic and just as scratch resistant as tungsten. Added bonus – it’s 100% naturally black. This means that even if you somehow managed to scratch it, the mark will not be noticeable. Black ceramic bands actually hold up really well over time – because in band format, we haven’t introduced any structural compromises that would encourage it to crack.

LOOK

Deep, lustrous black that won’t fade because it’s black all the way through. Hypoallergenic. Durable. Lightweight.

HARDNESS

Hard! 7 on MOHS. Takes materials like moissanite or diamonds to scratch it.

STYLING

6MM or 8MM. Inlay Options. No sleeves or stones.

CARE

Durable. Clean with mild soap and water. Polish with a non-abrasive cloth and polishing compound. Avoid bleach.

ZIRCONIUM

Lightweight | Most Versatile When It Comes to Styling

Zirconium is a shiny, silvery-gray metal that’s resistant to heat and corrosion. It’s so good at taking the heat, in fact, that it’s used as a structural component in nuclear reactors. In jewelry, we put it through a heat treatment process, resulting in a blackened finish that won’t fade over time, although it can scratch. Why risk it? It offers the most versatile styling options. That’s why we recommend BC for your basics and Z for the fun stuff.

LOOK

Deep black that never fades. Looks great in any finish – from satin to hand forged. Most versatile black metal for styling.

HARDNESS

Natural zirconium is quite hard, but its black coating can scratch. Covered under our refurbish warranty but will show with age.

STYLING

Any MM width. Inlays, sleeves, stones. Zirconium does it all.

CARE

Biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Clean with mild soap and water. Avoid activities that could scratch it.

CARBON FIBER

Durable & Lightweight | Black. Hypoallergenic. Textured Feel.

Made from thousands of tiny woven carbon fiber strands or, when forged, from tiny chopped-up carbon fibers. Solid band or as an inlay. Bands come either woven or forged (a technique made popular by Lamborghini). Forged bands are made of tiny chopped fibers molded together into one-of-a-kind patterns.

ORIGIN

Used in luxury cars, lightweight that can absorb a lot of impact energy.

WEIGHT

12X lighter than a gold band of the exact same size. 3X lighter than one in titanium.

UPKEEP

Won’t break if dropped. Scuffs can be sanded out easily with a scotch-bright pad or fine grit sandpaper.

WEAR

Stiff band, resistant to most chemicals & environmental conditions, making it a good choice when wear includes long exposure to water or sweat. Conductive – not for electricians.

ECLIPSE

A Ring Made Entirely of Diamonds.

More enduring than titanium, harder than tungsten, and even more timeless than gold, Eclipse diamond bands are created by pressing over 25 million diamond crystals into a solid diamond ring. The formation process is intense, with temperatures exceeding 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit and pressure of over 1 million pounds per square inch. Finally, an electric current cuts and shapes each band with exacting precision. Quite simply – Eclipse is the ultimate in band sophistication and cutting-edge technologies.

LOOK

Solid black. Matte or polish finish.

ACCENT

Stones or high karat inlays. Even super sleek wrap-around sleeves.

CARE

A 10 on the MOHs scale, Eclipse is the hardest & most scratch resistant band on earth, but, like any diamond, it can be chipped.

WEAR

Stiff band, resistant to most chemicals & environmental conditions, making it a good choice when wear includes long exposure to water or sweat. Conductive – not for electricians.
